Vino & Fungi | NYK
Mushrooms are rich in umami flavor and can pair well with many types of wines. Umami is one of the five taste receptors on the tongue. It can be described as a savory flavor most commonly found in cheeses, cured meats, and mushrooms. Just as with any flavor, foods rich in umami influence flavors of wine. If you have not yet tried it, this may sound like an unusual combination – however, wine and mushrooms are a pairing you won’t want to miss! Our NYKBU instructor, Sandy Waters, will guide you through how to pair different mushrooms with different wines. They will also teach you about flavor profiles in food and the effect it has on wine all while sipping on delicious New York State wines!
